“A Secretary of a Legation” is a memoir written by a diplomat at the beginning of XX century. This book is a mixture of reality and imagination. In the story has been intertwined actual events and an invented love intrigue.
The main character – the young secretary of a legation Giraud-Mangin – invents an unreal country – Slavonia, which everyone can associate with Bulgaria on the eve of the Balkan War.
It is difficult to find any information about the author of “A Secretary of a Legation”. About Giraud-Mangin is known that he is the author of at least one more novel - “Ceux de Jadis”, published in 1921 and republished in 1925. Probably Giraud-Mangin was born in Nantes. Wether he is the author of the frequently quoted work about the Nantes' architecture from the time of Louis XІ, we can only guess.
