This autobiographical novel is the author’s dissection of a tragic moment in her life, allowing her to reflect upon the events that led to the motorcycle accident that cost the life of her husband Claude on June 22nd, 1999. Over twenty years later, Brigitte Giraud wonders if there might have been more to the accident than meets the eye, if it wasn’t a matter of luck, destiny, or coincidences, and if she could’ve done something about it through the smallest of actions. Her mind thus steers her back to where things might have in fact all begun, the moment when they had bought a new house, a house for which she got the keys but in which her husband would never be able to live with her and their child.
"Live Fast" is a personal, intimate work, written with the flavor of an enigma, with elements of mystery, as if the author and the reader are waiting for some unexpected revelation - a technique that keeps the interest alive until the last page.
Brigitte Giraud (born 1960, Sidi-Bel-Abbès in Algeria) is a French writer, author of novels and short stories. Before settling in Lyon, she has studied English, German and Arabic. Giraud has worked as a bookseller, translator and journalist.
For her first book, La chambre des parents (1997), she received the Prix Littéraire des Étudiants and for Nico, her second novel, the Prix Lettres frontière Rhône-Alpes. In 2001, she received a special mention for the Wepler Prize for À présent. She also won the Goncourt short story prize in 2007 for her collection L'amour est très surestimé (Love Is Very Overrated), then the Grand Prix Jean Giono for Une année étrangère (A Year Abroad) in 2009.
In 2022 Brigitte Giraud was awarded the Prix Goncourt for her autobiographical novel "Vivre vite" (Live Fast).
