In this book, the poetry of Elisaveta Bagryana reaches the Bulgarian reader in an unusual way. The purpose of this compilement is to reveal her poetry to today's readers. The content covers all significant texts of the author, introduced as pure poetry: linear text with no beginning and no end.
Although the timeline of the publication of the works is well-known, they are not arranged according to the internal socio-cultural and existential stages and contexts in which they are published.
Elisaveta Bagryana is a Bulgarian poetess, author of children's books and translator, born on April 16, 1893 in Sofia. She studied Slavic philology at Sofia University. Her first poems — Why and Night Song — were published in 1915 in Contemporary Thought magazine.
After World War I she entered into the literary world, at a time when poetry was undergoing a transformation. By 1921, she was already active in the literary life. With the publication of her first book, The Eternal and the Holy (1927), she earned the confirmation of her peers. Bagryana's style is a combination of tradition and modernity. Her poems have been translated into 30 languages and published in France, Romania, Italy, Sweden, Poland and more.
