The story begins in 2000 - then Oscar Dufresne is thirty-four. Fictional writer, he writes his diary in the press so that his life becomes exciting. He is selfish, coward, cynical and sexually obsessed - in short he is a man like any other. In "The Romantic Egoist" Beigbeder once again shows his ability to ironize himself, to get into self-destructive revelations, but also to express his critical attitude towards the world that surrounds us.
