Are we faithful to ourselves when we create something, or we rather create ourselves? When we live our own lives and when we become hollow machines with repetitive movements by adopting others' ideas as ours? Where is the line between our authentic existence and fiction? These are the universal issues that permeate the stories in this book. Abstract aesthetic and existential themes are deployed by unusual subjects: a jazz musician touches God, but nobody realizes it; a talented artist creates a masterpiece under the name of his mentor; an infamous man seeks the meaning of life in Japanese a surreal forest; a dictator dreams of power over art. These stories open wide horizon of perception and interpretation just as the translucent reflections swirling in them.
Velislav D. Ivanov
Velislav D. Ivanov (b. 1988) obtained doctoral degree in political science.
He describes himself as a flâneur by vocation and an existentialist by conviction. His texts have been published in "Literaturen vestnik" (Literary Newspaper), "Kultura", "K", SVEMA, etc.
Ivanov is the author of the collection of short stories "Images and Reflections" (Colibri, 2017). He was awarded the First Prize of the National Literary Competition "Rashko Sugarev" (2018).
"The Heart of Labyrinth" (2023) is his second fiction book.
