Graduation Anniversary
In "Graduation Anniversary" Lamija Begagić makes us all witnesses of pieces of the lives of her former classmates, still young people, whose existence has been marked forever by the war. But the thunderous words, as well as the big topics, are not present in the stories, or remain in the background. Begagic prefers daily events; she is interested in partnerships, cracks and discrepancies between people who should be close to each other, their apparent and hidden disappointments. Sparingly and delicately, with two or three short replies or gestures, the writer introduces us to the innermost thoughts, hopes and fears of her characters, leaves them to reveal themselves. The twenty-three short stories, or "cuts", as the author calls them, are perfect in their unpretentiousness, wisdom and crystal clarity.
