Odyssey of the Girls from the East
Like frames from a film, scenes from the lives of two Bulgarian women in France at the beginning of the new century alternate.
Armed with "The Great Encyclopedic Dictionary of Larousse" and "The Little Larousse of Good Manners", the film student in Lyon discovers "the land of freedom, of sirens and of talking trams", struggles with the subtleties of the French language, and also encounters a special attitude towards "girls from the East". Told in a fascinating way, with humor and self-irony, her adventures are a counterpoint to the fate of the second heroine.
Dora, a single mother of two boys, who has gone through the revival process and countless life adversities in Bulgaria, falls into a network of traffickers and is forced into prostitution. The struggling Dora, whose life is only illuminated by her grandmother Arife's "magic lamp", also fits into the common cliché of "a girl from the East".
One day, the paths of the two heroines unexpectedly cross...
Elitza Gueorguieva

Elitza Gueorgieva (France/Bulgaria) is an author of documentary films, performer, and writer. She was born in Sofia and has been living and working in Paris for the past 15 years. After completing her M.A. in Cinema, she worked as an assistant director and editor for a number of production companies. She also authored a number of documentaries, including Waiting for, Every Wall Is a Door (2 Specials Mentions of the jury of Cinéma du réel in Paris), Our Quiet Place.
Elitza Gueorguieva's first novel, "The Cosmonauts Are Just Passing by", was published in September 2016 by the Éditions Verticales (Award SDGL André Dubreuil for first novel). In addition, she has published short texts in different literary magazines (Dyonisies, Jef Klak et Vue sur cour).
Elitza is a regular performer of literary texts on different stages and in various forums (le Tarmac, Le Théâtre Ouvert, le Khiasma, le Festival Hors-Limites, la Maison de la poésie in Paris, Paris en toutes lettres, etc).
