Characteristics

"When the Big Become Small", called by the author "an old-fashioned novel", is a story about childhood, a look at the incidents and events related to the protagonist from his appearance in this world to the completion of junior high school. The plot unfolds on a broad social and political background (the 50s and 60s of the 20th century), refracted through the focus of children's perception, but directly involved in the existence of the other characters. The paradoxes and absurdities of the "socialist way of life" with its limitations, mimicry, false and real values form a philosophical skepticism in the adolescent boy, which left a lasting impression on the adult narrator too. And he brilliantly knows how to turn the visions of the past into meaningful summaries.

This is a book of memory, connecting the past and the present with special affection. A book in which time flies in a wonderful way, gluing together fragments of the experience with pieces of the great history, mixed up after the great explosion as a result of the fall of the Berlin Wall.
