Awards and achievements
For its activities, the publishing house has been honored with countless awards and nominations. Twice, it has been the holder of the annual award of the Association of Bulgarian Publishers "Bronze Lion" – for the best publishing project and for the best published books. For its dedicated work over the past 35 years, the publishing house has won the national "Hristo G. Danov" award several times. Numerous talented authors, artists, illustrators, and translators have received various recognitions for books published under the Colibri logo.
Recent years
In 2013, it won the national "Hristo G. Danov" award for the prestigious series "Contemporary European Prose".
In 2019, the children's fairy tale series by Valeri Petrov was awarded the "Hristo G. Danov" prize in the "Book Art" category.
The new edition of "Inferno," the first part of Dante Alighieri's majestic epic poem "Divine Comedy," was awarded the "Golden Lion" 2022 for the best publishing project.
In 2020, the edition "Sofia Stories" by Ivan Vazov, compiled by Prof. Milena Kirova, received recognition in the "Literature" category from Sofia Municipality.
In 2022, Colibri received the special distinction "Unifier of Cultures" from the Association of Spanish-speaking Journalists in Bulgaria.
In 2024, the publishing house was awarded the grand "National Translation Prize" of Italy for 2023.
In 2025, Jacqueline Wagenstein, Executive Director of Colibri and founder of the CineLibri film-literature festival, was awarded the French Order "Knight of Arts and Letters."
Bulgarian authors
Many Bulgarian authors have received recognition for their books published under the Colibri logo over the past decades.
Among them are Anzhel Wagenstein (Jean Monnet European Literature Award for the novel "Goodbye, Shanghai"), Daria Karapetkova (Special Award of the Union of Translators in Bulgaria for outstanding achievement in the theory, history, and criticism of translation for "On Translation"), Vladimir Poleganov (Grand Prize for New Bulgarian Fiction "Helikon" for the novel "The Other Dream"), Georgi Tenev (Helikon Award for the novel "The Residence"). On the eve of his 100th anniversary, Anzhel Wagenstein was honored with the Special Sofia Award for exceptional achievements and contributions to national culture.
In 2024, Colibri received the Journalist Jury Award of the Bulgarian Book Association for the two-volume edition "Bulgarian Literature in the 21st Century" by Prof. Dr. Milena Kirova.
Artists and illustrators
Numerous artists and illustrators of Colibri editions have also been honored with awards over the years. Among them are Tonya Goranova (Hristo G. Danov Award for the children's edition "A Baby is Born"), Yasen Gyuzelev (Hristo G. Danov Award for the edition "Orpheus and Eurydice"), Kiril Zlatkov (Hristo G. Danov Award for the exquisite collection "Poetry" by Pierre de Ronsard), Stefan Kasarov (Golden Brush Award for long-term work on Colibri titles), and others.
Translation awards
Dozens of Bulgarian translators have been recognized for their inspired work on Colibri editions. Among them are Kiril Kadiyski (Special Award of the Union of Translators in Bulgaria for outstanding achievement in translation for "Inferno" by Dante Alighieri and the "Hristo G. Danov" award in the category "Translator of Fiction"); Silvia Wagenstein (Special Award for outstanding achievements in literary translation for the selected poems of Paul Éluard in "Poetry"); Vladimir Poleganov (Grand "Krystan Dyankov" Award for the translation of the novel "Ex-USA" by Reed King); Vasil Samokovliev (Hristo G. Danov Award for the translation of the novella "Weddings at the House" by Bohumil Hrabal); Stefan Rusinov (Hristo G. Danov Award for the Chinese translation of the novel "The Three-Body Problem," the first volume of the "Remembrance of Earth's Past" trilogy by Liu Cixin); Stoyan Gyaurov (SPB Award for outstanding achievement in translation for the collection "The Emigrants. Four Long Stories" by W.G. Sebald); Galina Melamed (SPB Award for the translation of "Persian Letters" by Charles de Montesquieu); Nevyana Andreeva (SPB Award in the "Humanities" category for the translation of "Thinking the Twentieth Century" by Tony Judt); Radosveta Getova (Grand "Hristo G. Danov" Award for literary translation for "The Child Act" by Ian McEwan); Darinka Kircheva (SPB Award for "Death with Interruptions" by José Saramago).
Vera Petrova (SPB Award for outstanding achievement in translation for "My Brilliant Friend" by Elena Ferrante); Georgi Angelov (Hristo G. Danov Award for the translation of "The Kindly Ones" by Jonathan Littell), and others. In 2021, during the annual SPB awards, four translators for Colibri editions were honored.
The special award for outstanding achievements was presented to Daria Karapetkova for the translation of "Almost the Same Thing" by Umberto Eco. Asya Grigorova was awarded for outstanding achievements for the translation of the novel "My Children" by Guzel Yakhina. In the "Poetry" category, the award for outstanding achievements went to Prof. Lyudmil Dimitrov for the translation of the collection "Poetry" by France Prešeren, and Margarita Dilova received an award for outstanding achievements in the "Humanities" category for the translation of "The Interpretation of Dreams" by Sigmund Freud. In 2024, Krasimir Petrov was awarded the SPB Award for outstanding achievement in literary translation for "All the Heavenly Blue" by Melissa da Costa, and Stoyan Gyaurov won the "Hristo G. Danov" award for the translation of "Vertigo. Feelings." by W. G. Sebald.
