This Allende's novel is based on the life of a real historical character – Inés Suárez (1507-1580) – one of the great female leaders from history, who furthered to build the nation of Chile. When Ines was thirty years old, she went to the New World to find her husband who had been tempted there in search of gold. But instead him, Inés has found Pedro de Valdivia, the Spanish conqueror of Chile, with whom she fell passionately in love. Both of them – Inés and Valdivia, will build the new city of Santiago and will wage a ruthless war against the indigenous Chileans.
The historical fiction “Inés Of My Soul” is in many ways the most ambitious novel of Isabel Allende. Written in her customary style, this novel is a great enjoyment for its readers.
