Anton Baláž (b. 1943) is one of the foremost Slovak writers. He is the author of 16 prose books, 4 books of non-fiction and other works like radio productions, television and film scenarios.
In his works, Baláž is focused on the individual, political or moral pressure. In this sense, his prose is realistic, although the readers will also identify and appreciate some irrational or phantasm elements. The main line of his literary works, especially after the fall of the Communist regime in 1989, is the grotesque presentation of Slovak (former Czechoslovak) historical mistakes.
